Tsunami in Thailand
On 26 December 2004, the tsunami (tiger waves) measured about 8.0m magnitude was the worst natural disaster to ever strike Thailand, causing loss of many lives as well as major damage to property, the environment and the economy. The severe impact on the natural environment in turn had serious consequences on the fishing and tourism industries and, therefore, thousands of families' livelihoods.
There were a total of 4,812 death cases, 8,457 injured cases and 4,499 missing cases. Elephants were used to move and lift heavy wreckage to search for victims and to clear roads. On a beach in Thailand, a man was leading an elephant to entertain tourists, when the tsunami came. He put several children on the elephant's back and so he saved them from the flood.
This scene had been broadcasting on television for a couple of days. The people who had lost their lives seems pathetic to me as I am living in a place which is free from natural dissters.
