There was a traffic accident recently. One Toyota Corolla car and two motorcycles were involved in the hit-and-run accident. This tragic accident happened along the Central Expressway (CTE) on 21st July 2009 during peak hours at about 5.30p.m.
There were two young adults being injured in the accident. A 33-year-old salesman, Mr Alan Teo said," The two young victims were only at their early 20s!" The victims were a GCE 'A' level certified student, 21-year-old, Mr John Tan and a part time sales girl, 22-year-old, Ms Susan Lim. The two motorcyclists were knocked down by the car and both suffered severe injuries. Mr John Tan was lying on the road unconsciously and Ms Susan Lim was flung out of the motorbike. Two ambulances arrived promptly and the paramedics assisted the two seriously injured victims. The paramedics carried them back into the ambulance. They were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital immediately.
A few eyewitnesses were interviewed. A 45-year-old taxi driver, Mr Billy Heng said, “The driver of the Toyota Corolla did not have sufficient time to step on his brake." He saw how the accident got started. A 49-year-old manager, Mr Sam Toh, was interviewed and said, "All I heard was a loud bang." He was unsure about the cause of the accident. Another eyewitness was a 36-year-old shop owner, Mrs Sally Soh and she said,” I saw one car following very closely behind one motorcycle." She saw what was happening before the accident occurred. The last eyewitness was a 14-year-old secondary student, Eugene Soh, son of Mrs Sally Soh. He said, “It’s so terrifying to encounter such accident to happen!"
When the 45-year-old, Inspector Mark Ong was interviewed, he said, “There was a large capacity of blood flowing along the scene of the accident." He advised drivers to take precautions by driving carefully and not to talk on the phone. Another advice was to avoid speeding your vehicle on the road during peak hours. The police officers are having a lot of difficulties investigating and solving the case. Bystanders are urged to come forward with information on the license plate number of the vehicles involved in the hit-and-run accident.
